I was on my way home from a meeting this morning and was awestricken by the beauty that is on display in the colors of the fall trees. The diversity, and yet the unity, of the trees was bursting forth with color like a continuously changing canvas for miles. I smiled as Creation pointed, with its unfathomable beauty, to the author & giver of beauty itself. God speaks to us through what is good, true, & beautiful and graciously shares it with us. Through beauty, He reminds us that there is something far greater than chance which has brought about the mysterious complexity & artistry of life. Otherwise, finding myself in “awe” would be quite an odd thing. “…Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities- His eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
